Why are gas absorbers used in electric light sources?

After production and sealing, light bulbs often retain residual impurity gases such as oxygen, water vapor, and hydrocarbons. These gases accelerate metal oxidation at high temperatures, shortening the lamp's lifespan.

Therefore, in electric light source manufacturing, getter materials are used after sealing to remove residual gases through adsorption or chemical reactions.
Common getters include barium, tantalum, titanium, niobium, zirconium, and their alloys, with different materials suited for varying gases and temperature conditions. Multiple getters are sometimes used in combination.
Additionally, cryolite mixtures containing red phosphorus as the active component represent a long-established non-metallic getter.
