Introduction to low-pressure sodium lamps

Low-pressure sodium lamps are low-pressure discharge lamps that use metallic sodium as the luminescent material. Since their introduction in the 1930s, extensive research has focused on optimizing their operating conditions, leading to continuous improvements in their luminous efficiency. Actual low-pressure sodium lamps have achieved luminous efficiencies of 180 to 220 lm/W, ranking first among all artificial light sources.
