A device that can automatically keep the load voltage constant is called a voltage stabilizer. Voltage stabilizers are mostly used in AC power supply systems, where the load is powered directly by the AC power grid or through a rectifier. The voltage of a general AC power grid may vary within a range of 5-15%, which causes the DC load voltage powered by the rectifier to change. In addition, changes in load current will also cause changes in load voltage. Therefore, in AC power supply systems, voltage stabilizers are often needed to stabilize the load voltage.
There are many types of voltage stabilizers, and the following methods are often used to classify them. According to the basic components used by the voltage stabilizer, the common ones are: glow discharge tube voltage stabilizer, silicon voltage regulator voltage stabilizer, magnetic saturation voltage stabilizer, electron tube voltage stabilizer, transistor voltage stabilizer and magnetic amplifier voltage stabilizer. At present, transistor voltage stabilizers and silicon voltage regulator voltage stabilizers are more widely used.
