What is amalgam?

Amalgam is an alloy containing mercury formed by mercury and certain metals or alloys. At present, many manufacturers use the amalgam method to make lamps. The so-called amalgam method is a method in which liquid mercury is not used, but amalgam, an alloy solid, is pre-installed near the electrode. After the exhaust pipe is sealed, high frequency is used for indirect heating to evaporate the mercury in the lamp. This method not only avoids the disadvantages of using liquid mercury, ensures the stability and reliability of the lamp quality, but also prevents mercury from polluting the environment.

In the production of fluorescent lamps, titanium-mercury alloy has been used to replace liquid mercury. It not only releases mercury accurately, but also is a highly effective getter that can remove impurity gases in the lamp tube and improve the performance and quality of the lamp tube.

The generated titanium-mercury alloy block is crushed and sieved to obtain titanium-mercury alloy powder of the required particle size.

Titanium-mercury alloy is synthesized under high temperature and high pressure conditions, so safety must be paid great attention. The reactor must be able to withstand high pressure and be airtight.
