Each method of making electroluminescent panels has its own unique advantages, and different types of lamps are suitable for different purposes.
The structure of adding organic coating on glass is the most ideal for electroluminescent lamps of simple common shapes (such as rectangles and circles). It often uses some components that are switched on and off separately to make the light-emitting panel display more complex graphics. It is mainly used for alphanumeric displays and aircraft instrument panels to be introduced below. Since organic electroluminescent lamps are not technically mass-produced like ceramic lamps, they still require skilled technical workers to operate, so they are relatively expensive.
Plastic structure lamps are most suitable for making luminous signs of danger signals for people engaged in dangerous operations, such as police officers who are engaged in traffic control at night. This is mainly because this type of lamp is light in weight, has a strong structure, and can be operated by a lightweight battery through a transistor inverter.
Ceramic structure lamps are suitable for mass production. Its surface emits light evenly, has low brightness, and requires little or no maintenance. In addition, it has the advantages of long life and durability. It is suitable for making luminous clock dials, bright circles of sign switches, and luminous dials. The power consumption for these purposes is very small, and because the light-emitting board is thin, it can adapt to changes in product design at any time. Aircraft instrument panels mainly use light-emitting boards with this ceramic structure.
Ceramic light-emitting boards have other uses, including: control dials for movie projectors, tuning dials for radios and televisions, exit lights in public places, stair risers, and darkroom security lighting. The United States has used electroluminescence for car instrument panels, and appropriate AC power can be obtained from car batteries through transistor oscillators. Large electroluminescent panels have been used to make highway signs.
